equine soft tissue repair

Ian was first introduced to Micro Current Technology in 2002.

MICRODOCTOR

This delivery unit was developed as a Research Delivery Tool, with particular regard to the regeneration of tendons and ligaments in humans, and was the only such device available between 2001 and 2006.A number of MicroDoctor units were “re-programmed” to optimise them for use on horses. In 2002, the company Diogenese was created as a vehicle through which research was conducted into the efficacy of this technology in horses.Between 2002 and 2004, a total of 16 National Hunt horses were treated and rehabilitated. These had all sustained tendon or ligament injuries, and in some cases associated open wounds, which were considered by Veterinarians to be career ending / life threatening.Several did not race again, and all for reasons unconnected with the injuries for which they had been treatedStatistically, in those that returned to racing, the average time from start of treatment to first race was 30 weeks.Paddy the Optimist and Walcot Lad both completed over 40 races in the 3 years post treatment. Neither had any recurrence of the injury for which they had been treated. Be My Royal sustained a total rupture of a superficial flexor tendon when winning the 2002 Hennessy Gold Cup.He was retired immediately post treatment / rehab, but later returned to race 8 more times, including The Welsh NationalAlexander Banquet sustained a serious injury to a high suspensory ligament. His subsequent races included The Cheltenham Gold Cup and The Grand National, both of which he completed

Other horses treated during this period included Killusty, North Gold and Toulouse LautrecTrainers of these horses included Willie Mullins, “Mouse” Morris and Tom GeorgeThe period 2004 – 2006 was spent on further research and it was during this time that real lessons were learned with regard to optimum pad placements, treatment protocols and rehab regimes.

MICROVET

Developed in 2006 as a replacement for the MicroDoctor, and intended principally as an active research tool for use in horses. In all Case Histories and Testimonials prior to 2006 the horses were treated with the original MicroDoctor Units, with kind permission of MicroCurrent Devices Ltd, the manufacturer.Unless otherwise stated, in all Case Histories and Testimonials since 2006, the horses were treated with the original MicroVet Units, which were purchased from MicroCurrent Devices Ltd., the manufacturerIt is not known whether these original units are similar in any way to other products currently on the market, and bearing similar names.
Much academic research has been conducted since early 2011 into animal biology, physiology and psychology, and the historical evidence for, and use of, Micro-Current technology. As a direct result, sequences of current far more appropriate for the use in animals have been determined. These are totally dissimilar to the sequences within the original MicroDoctor and MicroVet Units, are all previously in the public domain, and it’s these which are incorporated within the ArcEquine System.
